Oh sweet Ava! I always love seeing this little beauty. Ava suffers from MMIHS (megacystis-microcolon-intestinal-hypoperistalisis syndrome). Every session with her is a blessing. She is the sweetest little thing and despite everything she suffers from, she always has the biggest smile on her face...melt my heart!!

Ava is currently awaiting a multivisceral transplant as a result of complications related to her underlying condition, Megacystis Microcolon Intestinal Hypoperistalsis Syndrome (MMIHS). This extremely rare genetic condition primarily impacts the digestive system, kidneys and bladder. For Ava, MMIHS has resulted in her intestines not having the ability to absorb any nutrients or have any motility, and thus she is currently sustained through receiving all of her nutrition and hydration intravenously through a central line.
Ava was born in July of 2013 and has been listed for transplant at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh since 2014. At this time, she is listed at “status 1” for multivisceral transplant (small and large intestines, liver and pancreas). Ava and her family are extremely grateful to COTA and all of their supporters for all of their assistance and for giving them peace of mind for the numerous long term financial challenges that accompany the transplant process.
